Your Role in Bargaining

The Collective Agreement that is currently in effect between SaskTel and the CEP expires on March 20, 2010.

The proposal package CEP put forward to the Company was developed through extensive consultation with the membership. In preparation for this round of bargaining, the Union went through various stages in order to gather the members’ priorities for negotiations.

·         Over the summer months we distributed proposal forms to CEP members at SaskTel.

·         The proposals were discussed in Local Bargaining Caucuses and passed on to the Provincial Caucus held in Yorkton in October.

Provincial Caucus

Each Local sent three delegates to the Provincial Caucus where they met with the Local Presidents, the SaskCouncil Bargaining Committee nominees and the National Representative. Every proposal was discussed, debated and voted on. After four intensive days, the final bargaining package was developed.

The Provincial Caucus not only determines what proposals will go forward, but also sets the priorities for the Bargaining Committee.  Once the package is developed, it is up to the Bargaining Committee to develop arguments for each proposal and then present that justification to the Company.

In December 2009, we presented our package to SaskTel which consisted of 62 proposals along with 4 housekeeping issues. In turn, SaskTel tabled 30 demands that they wish to discuss with the Union.
